Amore Under the Stars

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the South Carolina State Museum invites you to celebrate your love and affection on February 9, 2017 with “Amore Under the Stars.” This special evening features a variety of performances, artifacts and experiences that tell historical and mythical love stories.

A special live performance of “Cosmic Love Stories” in the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Planetarium will feature three love stories from classical mythology involving heroism, betrayal, and forbidden love. Relax under the stars as dramatic storytellers recount the romantic tales of Perseus and Andromeda, Orion and Artemis, and Venus and Mars, and see how their stories are immortalized in the skies above.

A tour through the museum galleries will explore notable romantic relationships throughout South Carolina’s history and feature artifacts from great love stories. The Boeing Observatory will be available (weather permitting) to explore the starry night from the refracting telescope and outdoor terrace.

The romantic evening will also feature live music from tango ensemble, De la Noche with tango demonstrations from Emerald Ballroom, South Carolina related poetry readings, and romantic comedy trailers played throughout the evening. You can even create a special Valentine for your special someone at a hands-on “Valentine Creation Station.”

Tickets are $28 for members and $35 for non-members and include food provided by Spotted Salamander, beer and wine.
