Enjoy Total Solar Eclipse Fun at the State Museum in August

In addition to hosting Pre-Eclipse Weekend from Fri., Aug. 18 – Sun., Aug. 20 and Total Solar Eclipse Day on Mon., Aug. 21, the South Carolina State Museum will be celebrating all month long with special planetarium experiences, a new exhibit, special programs and more.

NEW Planetarium Experiences

Shadows From Space
Showing every day in August
Developed by State Museum planetarium staff, this full dome show offers viewers an opportunity to learn more about eclipses in an exciting immersive environment. Get tickets.

Beyond Totality
Sat., Aug. 19 and Sun., Aug. 20 Only
This special evening planetarium show will feature a live musical performance by The Lovely Few. They will perform to choreographed visuals on the planetarium dome featuring planets, constellations and an eclipse simulation. Get Tickets.

Solar Science Saturdays

Solar Science Saturdays

Enjoy SCE&G Solar Science Saturdays every Saturday in August! The museum will be full of Solar Eclipse related activities for kids including: hovercraft rides, rocket launching, eclipse models, galileoscopes and more. Learn more.

NEW Exhibit

South Carolina native and Apollo 16 astronaut Charles Duke will be the focus of the new exhibit, South Carolina’s First Astronaut Charles Duke and the Apollo Missions, opening Aug. 5. Learn about Duke’s life from growing up in Lancaster, SC to joining the Naval Academy, becoming a space pilot and later becoming the 10th person to walk on the moon.

This special day is designed for children and families with special needs. Join us as we learn all about the upcoming solar eclipse! Head to the observatory for a fun solar science experience and learn all about how the eclipse will happen in the special, Shadows from Space, planetarium show.
