Boeing Observatory Professional Development Workshop
Wed., Nov. 6 from 2 – 8 p.m.

Join the State Museum and Boeing Observatory for a FUN, FREE, astronomy professional learning experience hosted in conjunction with this year’s (SC)2 conference. While this workshop is designed for 1st, 4th, 8th and high school astronomy/earth science teachers, educators from any subject and grade level are welcome to participate.

  • Standards-based astronomy classroom activities

  • Boeing Observatory distance learning experiences and how to use them in your classroom

  • Fun astronomy/STEAM teaching strategies

  • South Carolina State Museum on-site astronomy field trip opportunities

  • A live night sky tour in the SCSM planetarium

  • Evening viewing through the museum’s 1926 12 3/8-inch Alvan Clark telescope (weather permitting)

  • Opportunities to connect with the State Museum’s astronomy education team

Snacks and a light dinner will be provided. Workshop participants are expected to conduct at least one Boeing Observatory distance learning experience in their classrooms during the 2019-2020 school year.

Recertification

All participants will receive 6 renewal credits through the South Carolina State Department of Education.


How Do I Register?

Simply fill out the form below and observatory staff will be in touch with you by email. Registration is first come, first served, and each workshop is limited to 20 participants. The South Carolina State Museum reserves the right to prioritize registrations based on observatory program needs.

Please note that you MUST register with the museum using the form below to confirm your seat. Completion of this form does not guarantee a workshop registration. An observatory staff member will be in touch to notify you of your registration status.
