Astronomy Day – Space Week

Sat., July 27 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Space Week fun continues at the State Museum with a cosmically cool day all about astronomy! The museum will be partnering with local community organizations to increase awareness and appreciation for both our world and the universe beyond with special activities, exhibits and shows.

  • Explore space through virtual reality experiences (ages 13 +).

  • NASA Solar System Ambassadors will be on site to help guests take a safe up-close look at the Sun through solar scopes set up outside the museum and in the Boeing Observatory. Please note: Solar observing is dependent on clear skies.

  • Hands-on fun with our friends at Lowcountry Stargazers.

  • Science demonstrations from the USC Astronomy and Physics Department.

  • Hands-on activities (robotics fun!) and space themed creation stations with State Museum educators.

  • Explore the new exhibit, Apollo 50: Journey to the Moon, and the newly renovated space gallery featuring an interactive Mars Rover and more.

  • Screenings of the Smithsonian Channel’s The Day We Walked on the Moon.

  • Lunar Live Sky planetarium show ($).

  • Fly Me to the Moon 4D and The Martian 4D shows ($).
