Astronomy Day

Sat., April 21 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The State Museum will be partnering with local community organizations to increase awareness and appreciation for both our world and our universe with a special day of cosmically cool fun!

  • Science and astronomy related demonstrations featuring guest educators from Francis Marion University’s Dept. of Physics and Astronomy, the University of South Carolina Society of Physics Students and Richland Library.

  • Hands-on science activities (rocket launching!) with State Museum educators.

  • See the NEW full-dome planetarium experience, Black Holes.

  • Get a sneak-peek of the upcoming Lyrid meteor shower with a special Live Sky Tour in the planetarium.

  • Visit the State Museum’s Boeing Observatory for up-close look at the Sun. Please note: Solar observing is dependent on clear skies.

  • Explore The Robert B. Ariail Collection of Historical Astronomy. This world-class collection includes American made telescopes and astronomical equipment dating back to 1730.

Plus, guests will be able to enter a drawing to win a telescope from Explore Scientific!
