Fall Festival and History Day

Fall Festival and History Day – FREE GENERAL ADMISSION

Sat., Nov. 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Celebrate Fall with delicious South Carolina barbecue, local craft beer and live music at the South Carolina State Museum. Plus, take a trip through time with exciting activities and programs focused on South Carolina’s history. Enjoy:

  • A variety of barbecue made by award-winning South Carolina pitmasters cooked on-site at the event including Jim Hayes of West Columbia, Buddy Rogers of Marion and David Elliott of Hemingway

  • Beer garden featuring local craft beer from Columbia Craft, Steel Hands, Swamp Cabbage and Legal Remedy

  • Live performances by the Capital City Cloggers (10 a.m.), Savannah River Bluegrass (10:30 a.m.), Palmetto Blue (12 p.m.), Blue Iguanas (1 p.m.), Slow Drawl ( 2 p.m.), Matthew Dickerson & Matt Watson (3 p.m.), Slope Valley (4 p.m.) and Papa String Band (5 p.m.)

  • Bluegrass Jam Session with SC Bluegrass and Traditional Music Association. Bring your own acoustic instrument and join in from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

  • Demonstrations and displays from South Carolina artists including decoy artist Tom Boozer, folk artists Herman Thompson and Geraldine Smith, painter Rick Wells, sweetgrass basket maker Sarah Edwards-Hammond, and more

  • Wood workers will be demonstrating and discussing their techniques including Ed Devaney, Tom Haas, Randy Burton and more

  • “Bed Turning” presentation featuring historic quilts from the collection of the State Museum at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

  • Gallery talk with guest speaker Robert Seibels about historic furniture reproduction at 1: 30 p.m.

  • Gallery tour of the new exhibit, Grand Designs: 19th Century South Carolina Furniture at 2:30 p.m.

  • Waltz lessons and demonstration with Ken Broom at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

  • Face Painting

  • Hands-on crafts

  • And lots more!

General admission to the State Museum is FREE during Fall Festival and History Day!

Activities and performances will take place in front of the museum, as well in the lobby and in areas throughout the museum. Guests are welcome to bring their own chair or blanket to enjoy some of the bands playing outside. All activities are included with FREE museum general admission or membership, except for 4d and planetarium shows, food, beverages and art purchases.
