Holiday Planetarium Lighting

Thurs., Dec. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Holiday fun returns to the State Museum!

In addition to extended operating hours, this evening will include showings of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4-D and the planetarium experience, Laser Holidays. Plus, the Cotton Mill Exchange will be open for extra shopping time, kids can make a LED reindeer hat and more.

The Crescent Cafe will have sweet treats available for purchase and free hot chocolate for guests. Bodega Kitchen food truck will also be on site with food available for purchase.

At the end of the evening, the museum will invite guests outside at 6:45 p.m. to see the ‘lighting’ of the planetarium dome as it is transformed into a giant snow globe with the help of our partners at Ambient Media: Event Lighting, Sound and Displays. The dome will light up every night after dark throughout the holiday season.

Museum General Admission is PAY AS YOU MAY
Museum members receive free general admission. We are leaving it up to our non-member guests to set their own general admission price for this evening! $1, $5, $10 or free – it is your choice. General admission includes access to all four floors of exhibition space. 4D and Planetarium shows will carry a set ticket price of $5 each ($4 for members).

Proceeds from PAY AS YOU MAY general admission will go to the South Carolina State Museum Foundation in support of museum educational programs.

Activities are included with museum general admission or membership. Planetarium and 4D shows require an additional charge. Due to limited capacities advance online ticket purchase is strongly encouraged.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4D
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4-D uses the same stop motion animation as the beloved television classic to deliver a visually brilliant experience true to the story that has charmed audiences for generations. Join Rudolph, Hermey the Elf and their friends on this epic adventure. Run time: 10 mins.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4D showtimes: 5:00 and 5:30 p.m.

Laser Holidays
This is an exciting and unique way to celebrate the season through a display of colorful and dramatic laser lights choreographed to a mix of holiday music favorites, including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Deck the Halls,” “White Christmas” and more. Run time: 30 mins.

Laser Holidays showtime: 6:00 p.m.
