Science on Tap at the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery and Ale House

Sat., Oct 5 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Join the State Museum and members of the Midlands Astronomy Club for a fun, fascinating evening out at the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery and Ale House.

Enjoy an informal talk with museum astronomers and local experts, where you can learn about our universe and even participate in a telescope viewing of the Moon (weather permitting).

Cooking: Its Chemistry and Influence on Human Development
with Dr. Scott R. Goode, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of South Carolina.
7:30 – 8 p.m. with a Q&A afterward

Anthropologists point to the development of cooking as one of the giant leaps of humanity. Today, cooking is more than a way to obtain more calories from food – it has evolved to a science in which basic chemical principles can be used to transform ingredients – like flour, butter, and chocolate – into a culinary delight that bears no resemblance to its humble origins. Dr. Goode is also a member of the South Carolina Section of the American Chemical Society.

Please note: this event will take place at the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery and Ale House, 1402 Jim Hamilton Blvd., Columbia, SC 29205.
