Virtual Family Astronomy Night – Plenty-O-Planets

May 22

Fri., May 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Families are invited to join museum educators each Friday for a special, virtual program all about astronomy. How does the Solar System throw a party? They planet! We’ll take a sneak peak into one of our Astronomy Day demonstrations to learn how planets are formed. Then we’ll dive into the activity of the week, “Play Dough Planets”, which will give you a good idea of just how big, or small, your favorite planet might be compared to others. Gather your Play Dough Planet supplies so you can follow along!

Virtual attendance and completion of a weekly challenge activity can earn you a stamp (virtual for now) for your Field Guide. See below for details.

Registration is required and capacity is limited. Click HERE to register.

Remember, museum members get early access to register for virtual programs. Not a member? Join today so you can enjoy great benefits, like early access to program registration.

Family Astronomy Night – Plenty-O-Planets

For this week’s program, registered participants will need the following to participate.

Supplies For Play Dough Planets:

A large ball of dough: About 1lb of dough works best but feel free to use what you’ve got! A smaller ball of dough is more challenging and a larger ball of dough a little easier.

Don’t have play dough? That’s ok! You can use cookie dough and make your own Cosmic Cookies after. Or here is a recipe to a simple salt dough that would also work:

Print out this sheet: TBA

A plastic knife or other safe way to cut the dough (please have adult help if using a real knife)

AstroKid Challenge Activity
TBA. Not an AstroKid? Learn more about this add-on club for members.
