Museum Operating Status – Closed Temporarily

Operational Status

The South Carolina State Museum is currently CLOSED and all public programs are suspended until further notice.

Taking into consideration guidelines set forth by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), the State Museum has made the difficult decision to temporarily close to the public in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). All upcoming museum programs, events and rentals through April 30 are canceled.

During this time, the State Museum will remain committed to its mission to provide educational environments that entertain and inspire imagination. Engaging educational museum content is available online to ensure our resources will continue to be available to South Carolinians even though our doors are closed.

Museum staff will remain on site and we will continue to update our operational status on our website and via our social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

What Can You Do?

  • Clean your hands often. Wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water aren’t available.

  • Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands, particularly your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • If you cough or sneeze, use a shirt sleeve or tissue, not your hands. Then, wash your hands again.

  • Greet others without handshakes or hugs. Opt for waves or an elbow bump.

For more information on the Coronavirus please visit South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
