Museum Operating Status – Museum Reopening

Operational Status

While the South Carolina State Museum remains temporarily closed, we are currently in the planning and preparation stages to open to museum members on Sat., May 30 and to the general public on Tues., June 2.

Please note: in order adhere to these recommended guidelines some areas and exhibits may remain closed, or be revised to create limited touch experiences and increase social distancing among guests.

For those not ready or able to visit, the museum will continue to offer a variety of virtual programs and content.

What Can You Do?

  • Clean your hands often. Wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water aren’t available.

  • Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands, particularly your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • If you cough or sneeze, use a shirt sleeve or tissue, not your hands. Then, wash your hands again.

  • Greet others without handshakes or hugs. Opt for waves or an elbow bump.

For more information on the Coronavirus please visit South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
