Solar Eclipse 2017 Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

Will there be parking available during the Pre-Eclipse Weekend (Fri., Aug. 18 – Sun., Aug. 20)?
Yes. Parking will be available in the large lot outside the museum.

Will there be parking available on Eclipse Day, Mon. Aug. 21?
We are currently finalizing the exact details, but Eclipse Day ticket holders will have access to parking in the museum lot and at several locations within walking distance on the day of the event.

Are my Pre-Eclipse Weekend tickets valid for the entire weekend (Fri., Aug. 18 – Sun., Aug. 20)?
No. Your Pre-Eclipse Weekend tickets are only valid for the date (Fri., Sat. OR Sun.) you select when purchasing your tickets. If you wish to attend more than one day over the Pre-Eclipse Weekend you will need to purchase individual tickets for each day. If you need to switch the dates of your tickets, please email webmaster@scmuseum.org

What do my Pre-Eclipse Weekend and Eclipse Day tickets include?

Will walk-up tickets be available for the Pre-Eclipse Weekend?
Most likely, but there is the potential they may sell-out.

Will walk-up tickets be available for Eclipse Day?
No. All Eclipse Day tickets for Mon., Aug. 21 MUST BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE. Eclipse Day tickets will sell out and walk-ups will not be available for Eclipse Day.

I have my own telescope / astrophotography / solar viewing equipment. Can I bring it with me to view the Solar Eclipse on Mon., Aug. 21?
We should have more information on this soon, once we determine an exterior location with enough space to set up equipment. Due to capacity issues, we recommend not bringing a lot of your own equipment for this event.

Member Information

Who may purchase member priced tickets for the Pre-Eclipse Weekend and for Eclipse Day?
Member tickets for these special events are valid ONLY for individuals who hold an active membership and are covered by that membership. Non-Member friends and family must purchase regular priced tickets. Members will be required to present their member cards to redeem their tickets. If you are not sure who is covered by your membership, please visit the Membership section for details. If you have additional questions, please email membership@scmuseum.org.

Are $5 Member Pre-Eclipse Weekend tickets valid for the entire weekend (Fri., Aug. 18 – Sun., Aug. 20)?
No. Your Pre-Eclipse Weekend tickets are only valid for the date (Fri., Sat. OR Sun.) you select when purchasing your tickets. Do I have to buy a ticket for the Pre-Eclipse Weekend if I am a member?
No, general admission is free for members during the Pre-Eclipse Weekend and this grants access to all 4 floors of the museum. If you want to participate in any of the add-on attractions (4D theater, planetarium, blockbuster exhibit) you must purchase a Total Access Pass for $5 which grants unlimited access to all attractions for the day you purchased.

Do I get free admission on Eclipse Day?
No, Monday, August 21, 2017 will be reserved as a special event where members receive their standard 20% off for ticketed events.

Groups, Schools and Homeschools

Who qualifies for Pre-Eclipse and Eclipse Day ‘Group’ tickets?
Any group with 10 or more people may book a visit for the Pre-Eclipse Weekend and/or for Eclipse Day at the special group rate. These visits MUST be booked through the museum’s Group Visits Dept. Groups must submit a Pre-Eclipse Weekend Group Interest Form and/or an Eclipse Day Group Interest Form to start the registration process.

Do homeschool families receive their usual free general admission for the Pre-Eclipse Weekend and Eclipse Day?
No. Both the Pre-Eclipse Weekend and Eclipse Day are special museum events. We will be offering homeschools and groups special pricing for Eclipse Day, but tickets will have to be purchased in advance for those wishing to attend. We are currently finalizing details for this offer and will have more information soon.

How can schools book a visit for Eclipse Day?
We are currently finalizing details for school visitation on Eclipse Day., Mon. Aug. 21, and will have more information soon.
