Open Exploration time allows students and teachers to explore all four floors of the South Carolina State Museum’s collections at their own pace. Open Exploration times are now available Monday through Friday beginning at 9am.

CLASSROOM PROGRAMS AND SHOWS

Available SCSM field trip programs and shows are organized by subject and then by grade. Please click on the subject below for a full list of all current offerings, as well as the dates and times each is available.

BOEING OBSERVATORY

The Boeing Observatory opens daily at 10 a.m. to all visiting groups. If your group does not have time to schedule one of the museum educator led classes linked below, you are still welcome to visit the observatory at any time during your visit. An astronomy educator will be there to greet you.

FIELD TRIPS AT NIGHT – SECOND SHIFT TUESDAY

The State Museum is open late every Tuesday night for museum exploration, night sky viewing in the observatory, planetarium shows, 4D movies, late shopping and more. Did you know that this time of day is great for organized field trips as well? Teachers can register as a school group and simply tell school families what date and evening to show up. As long as one teacher representative is in attendance to “check-in” and you have pre-registered in advance – your students receive the School Group rate. There is no bus costs to worry about, no corralling students to worry about, and no missing class time! Please note: a minimum of 10 students is required.
