Boeing Observatory Professional Development Workshop

The State Museum and Boeing Observatory are on the move this summer! South Carolina teachers can join observatory staff for a special series of workshops being offered in several locations across the state. Teachers can enjoy a fun, FREE, astronomy professional learning opportunity. You’ll experience:

  • Standards-based astronomy classroom activities

  • Boeing Observatory distance learning experiences and how to use them in your classroom

  • Fun astronomy/STEAM teaching strategies

  • Boeing Observatory outreach opportunities for your school

  • Optional evening viewing of Jupiter (weather permitting)

Dinner will be provided. Workshop participants are expected to conduct at least one Boeing Observatory distance learning experience in their classrooms during the 2018-2019 school year.

Plus, participating teachers can receive 6 hours of renewal credits on completion of this workshop

Dates, Times and Locations

All workshops are 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm with the optional evening viewing starting at 9:00 pm.

Date: Sat., June 30 (registration deadline June 28)
Location: Chester State Park in Chester County, SC

Date: Wed., July 11 (registration deadline July 9)
Location: Lee State Park in Lee County, SC


How Do I Register?

Simply fill out the form below and observatory staff will be in touch with you by email. Registration is first come, first served, and each workshop is limited to 15 participants. The South Carolina State Museum reserves the right to prioritize registrations to 1st, 4th, and 8th grade teachers, and high school teachers who teach astronomy.
