Second Shift Twosdays
Every Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m.
The museum is open late every Tuesday until 8 p.m. for Second Shift Twosdays. Explore four floors of permanent and changing exhibits, special planetarium shows, 4D Theater films, evening viewing in the Observatory and more. Click HERE to learn more.
First Citizens First Sunday
Sun., March 1 from 12 to 5 p.m.
General admission to the South Carolina State Museum is only $1 for guests on First Citizens First Sunday! Included in general admission, guests can four floors of permanent and changing exhibits. College Art Day

Aspiring student artists and parents are invited to explore South Carolina colleges and university art departments during College Art Day at the South Carolina State Museum. Meet current students and faculty from colleges around the state and hear from alumni applying their art degrees in their professions. South Carolina art and artists will be featured with an exceptional day of activities for everyone at Art Day at the South Carolina State Museum. Guests will enjoy hands-on art activities, demonstrations by South Carolina artists, guided behind-the-scenes tours of the museum’s art storage areas and the new art exhibit, Halsey 100. South Carolina Muzzleloader Conference, Show and Sale
April 10 – 11 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The South Carolina State Museum presents the inaugural South Carolina Muzzleloader Conference, featuring displays and sessions about 19th century muzzleloaders, gun building, metal etching, relief carving and silver inlay, decorating hawks, bags, straps, tanning leather, powder horn decorating, history of muzzleloading guns in the Southeast, gun safety and much more. The event is included with museum general admission or membership.

Museum Road Show

Have you ever wondered if those items you found at the local flea market, antique shop, tag sale, or even in your basement and attic were actually worth something? Whether it’s an heirloom, antique or artifact, local experts will be onsite in a variety of fields to offer informal verbal appraisals at the Museum Road Show.
Southeastern Toy Soldier Show
Sat., Aug. 8
Exquisitely detailed military miniature figures or the little plastic G.I. Joes from your childhood, they’re all here at the Southeastern Toy Soldier Show. See, buy, or trade toy soldiers or other military miniatures from various periods of history and enjoy special museum programs presented during the day.
Fall Festival & Pickin’ Party
The South Carolina State Museum is kicks off the fall season with this annual event featuring South Carolina barbecue, live music, artist demonstrations and lots more!
Tricks and Treats
The museum’s annual Halloween tradition is back for lots of family fun! Featuring activities like: games and prizes, scavenger hunt, crafts, special shows and more!
The State Museum is officially kicks-off each holiday season with an annual WinterFest celebration featuring great shopping, holiday shows and family-friendly events and activities taking place throughout the month of December.
