Second Shift TwosdaysSecond_Shift_Moon
Every Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m.
The museum is open late every Tuesday until 10 p.m. for Second Shift Twosdays. Explore four floors of permanent and changing exhibits, special planetarium shows, 4D Theater films, evening viewing in the Observatory and more. Click HERE to learn more.
NEW! General admission is 2 for $10 during Second Shift Twosdays! Plus, enjoy LIVE music in the Carolina Makers exhibit on the select Tuesdays nights throughout the summer!

 


 

First Citizens First SundayFCSquare
Sun., May 1 from 12 to 5 p.m.
General admission to the South Carolina State Museum is only $1 for guests on First Citizens First Sunday! Included in general admission, guests can explore four floors of permanent and changing exhibits. Blockbuster exhibit admission, Planetarium and 4D Theater shows are an additional price.

On May 1, guests will also be able to celebrate CINCO DE MAYO with a variety of family fun activities such as an unbreakable piñata, crafts, games, dance, music, food and more. Click HERE to learn more.

The State Museum is proud to host the fourth annual Cinco de Mayo festival to celebrate Hispanic heritage and pride. The festival provides an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate and recognize the Hispanic culture in South Carolina. Click HERE to learn more.

Ride and Drive EventRide and Drive
Tues., May 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the State Museum’s parking lot
In partnership with SCDHEC, the Palmetto State Clean Fuels Coalition is hosting a ride and drive event at the State Museum. In honor of Air Quality Awareness Week, alternative fuel vehicles will be available to learn about how reducing petroleum use helps improve air quality. The general public, fuel providers, and fleet managers are invited to attend and learn more about alternative fuel vehicles and to ride in or test drive the vehicles. Vehicles will include: Electric Vehicles, Propane, Biodiesel, etc. Click HERE to learn more.

 


 

Transit of Mercury ViewingMercuryTransitBLOG
Mon., May 9 the museum will open early at 8:30 a.m.
On May 9, the planet Mercury will appear to cross the face of the Sun. The State Museum will offer guests the chance to SAFELY observe the Transit from the Boeing Observatory. The transit will be visible for several hours and conclude at 2:42 p.m. Viewing is included with museum membership or general admission. Please Note: viewing is dependent on clear skies. Planets for the People: Sidewalk AstronomyMoon_Web
Sat., May 14 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery & Ale House in Columbia.
Explore the evening sky with State Museum staff and members of the Midlands Astronomy Club in this special sidewalk astronomy program! You’ll be able to look through a telescope to observe the moon and more. Please note: this event is weather dependent and is NOT located at the State Museum. Click HERE to learn more.

NEW! Friday Night Laser Lightsdoors_laser
June, July and August 2016
This summer, on the fourth Friday of the month, you can see dazzling full-color and totally immersive full-dome laser shows set to some of your favorite music. From classic rock like Pink Floyd to Michael Jackson to EDM and beyond. Three different shows per night at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. Tickets are: $8 public/$6 members.
