First Citizens First Sunday

General admission to the South Carolina State Museum is only $1 for guests on First Citizens First Sunday! Included in general admission, guests can explore four floors of permanent and changing exhibits. Blockbuster exhibit admission, Planetarium and 4D Theater shows are an additional price.
On May 1, guests will also be able to celebrate CINCO DE MAYO with a variety of family fun activities such as an unbreakable piñata, crafts, games, dance, music, food and more. Click HERE to learn more.
Cinco de Mayo at the SC State Museum

In partnership with SCDHEC, the Palmetto State Clean Fuels Coalition is hosting a ride and drive event at the State Museum. In honor of Air Quality Awareness Week, alternative fuel vehicles will be available to learn about how reducing petroleum use helps improve air quality. The general public, fuel providers, and fleet managers are invited to attend and learn more about alternative fuel vehicles and to ride in or test drive the vehicles. Transit of Mercury Viewing
Mon., May 9 the museum will open early at 8:30 a.m.
On May 9, the planet Mercury will appear to cross the face of the Sun. The State Museum will offer guests the chance to SAFELY observe the Transit from the Boeing Observatory. The transit will be visible for several hours and conclude at 2:42 p.m. Viewing is included with museum membership or general admission. Please Note: viewing is dependent on clear skies. Planets for the People: Sidewalk Astronomy
Sat., May 14 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery & Ale House in Columbia.
Explore the evening sky with State Museum staff and members of the Midlands Astronomy Club in this special sidewalk astronomy program! You’ll be able to look through a telescope to observe the moon and more. Please note: this event is weather dependent and is NOT located at the State Museum.Click HERE to learn more.

This summer, on the fourth Friday of the month, you can see dazzling full-color and totally immersive full-dome laser shows set to some of your favorite music.
