Kids ages 3 – 12 receive FREE general admission!*

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing with an entire week of space-themed fun at the museum. See special documentary screenings, enjoy hands-on activities, experience night-sky observing, explore the new exhibit, Apollo 50: Journey to the Moon, and much more.

Activities are included with museum general admission unless noted ($). Museum members are invited to bring-a-buddy during Space Week. Each member buddy will receive member benefits during their visit.

*Please note: planetarium and 4D shows are an additional charge.

The Smithsonian Channel’s The Day We Walked on the Moon
Showing Daily from July 20 -28 Only
The Day We Walked on the Moon relives those iconic 24 hours through the surprising revelations of the men and women who were there and those impacted across the globe. Run time: 45 mins.

Mon. – Fri: 2:00 p.m.
Sat: 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Sun: 2:00 p.m.

The show is free with general admission or membership.

Space Week Special Events

Astronomical Activities
Mon., July 22 – Fri., July 26 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Space Week guests are invited to enjoy hands-on, interactive space-themed fun all week! Design and launch your own rocket, check out a variety of astronomy focused creation stations and learn about forces and friction with hovercraft rides (Mon. – Thurs. Only)! Some Friday activities count towards earning Girl Scout badges. Activities are free with museum general admission and/or membership.

Mystery Moon Theatre Live! ($)
Tues., July 23 from 5 – 8 p.m.
Grab your friends for funny evening out at the State Museum! Experience the classic science fiction film Destination Moon in the style of Mystery Science Theater 3000 with comedians from Trustus Theater’s improve group, “The Mothers.” Space themed beer, Creation stations, cash bar and more. Sponsored by Colonial Life. Tickets on sale now!

Meet Milt Putnam and Bob Coggin in the Apollo 50 Gallery
Thurs., July 25 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.
You’re invited to the State Museum to meet U.S. Navy photographer, Milt Putnam, who photographed the historic Apollo 11 splashdown, and Bob Coggin, a former Navy diver responsible for helping recover Apollo astronauts.

Friday Night Laser Lights ($)
Fri., July 26 from 6 – 11 p.m.
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11. Cash bar includes Columbia Craft Brewing’s Alien Hat beer and a specialty cocktail. Plus, explore the museum’s Apollo 50: Journey to the Moon exhibit. Shows include: The Beatles Abbey Road Laser Show, Led Zeppelin Full Dome Show, Metallica Laser Show and Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Full Dome Show. Tickets on sale now!

Astronomy Day
Sat., July 27 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Join the museum for a special day focused on our world and the universe beyond through a variety of fun science activities and demonstrations including Virtual Reality, robotics fun and more. Guests can also see the new movie, Fly Me to the Moon 4D, explore the newly renovated space and science gallery and experience a show in the digital dome planetarium. Plus, the Boeing Observatory will be open for solar viewing.
