Did You Know?
The State Museum has over 1.1 million objects in its permanent collection. With an estimated 1 million natural history specimens and 100,000 pieces related to cultural history, art and science/technology, it contains the tangible history of South Carolina.
Not only are these objects and artworks important to the history and culture of our state, but they also have the power to inspire and bring compelling stories of South Carolina to life. The South Carolina State Museum Foundation works to provide much-needed financial support to the museum, which helps ensure the preservation of these artifacts and specimens for future generations.
