Field Trips – The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes

Jan. 18 – April 19, 2020

Educators! Engage your students in science, history, and literacy while exploring the State Museum’s new blockbuster exhibit. Your students will use powers of observation and logic as they gather clues and engage in hands-on forensic science.

This interactive exhibit asks students to hone their deductive reasoning skills while they discover the many scientific principles involved in crime investigation. Students also will examine works of those who influenced Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, like Edgar Allan Poe and Wilkie Collins, as well as those who followed in his footsteps – Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers – whose stories transformed Mystery into the genre we know and love today!

While exploring and solving, students will:

  • Actively engage with science, mathematics, engineering, and technology

  • Interact tactically, audibly, and visually in the forensics science lab

  • Analyze and compare crime scene evidence

  • Use sources and read critically

  • Learn how physics, chemistry, and biology play a part in crime investigation

  • Explore how anatomy, geology, and entomology became part of forensic studies

  • See 250 artifacts related to both Victorian and modern times
