Member Night | A Century Under the Stars

Join us for an exclusive members-only Observatory celebration honoring the 100th birthday of our historic Alvan Clark telescope - a treasured piece of our museum’s history that has inspired curiosity and wonder for generations. 

Enjoy exclusive after-hours access to the museum, celebratory bundt cakes and refreshments, and a special planetarium presentation of Two Small Pieces of Glass at 8:00 p.m., highlighting the fascinating history of telescopes.

After the members' celebration, you're invited to stay as the museum remains open late for Lunar Eclipse Night and experience the eclipse alongside fellow guests. The lunar eclipse begins at 10:33 p.m. and reaches totality at 12:12 a.m.

Two Small Pieces of Glass  (30 min)  
When was the first telescope invented? Learn about the history of the telescope, including how they work and how they have dramatically changed our view of the universe and our place in it over time. Afterward, we’ll take a quick look at the current night sky and simulate the lunar eclipse to give a preview of what to expect later in the evening.
