The State Museum’s popular Halloween tradition returns with health and safety precautions in place! Enjoy a month of OZ themed Halloween fun with family and friends – on site and online.

Travel to Oz with daily showings of, The Wizard of Oz 4-D Experience™ and enjoy special OZ themed fun on select weekends all month long.

For health and safety the museum is managing gallery and theater capacity, requiring social distancing, and has increased cleaning frequency. Per Gov. McMaster’s executive order, guests aged 3 and above are required to wear a face covering while visiting state buildings.

Planetarium Experiences

Skies Over Oz, planetarium

Skies Over Oz

Oct. 1 – Nov. 1
Enjoy tales of epic adventure in Oz told as a constellation myth, using imagined patterns of stars in the night sky. We’ll also take a quick look at the current night sky from here at home in Columbia. Run time: 30 mins.

Halloscream Laser Lights

Oct. 1 – Nov. 1
Experience a thrilling family-fun laser light show in the planetarium featuring Halloween music favorites, including “Thriller,” “Monster Mash,” “Ghostbusters,” and more. Run time: 30 mins.

Virtual Trivia Night – Spooky SC!
Tues., Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
South Carolina is rich in myths and legends from the mountains to the sea. Virtual guests are invited to test their knowledge of ghostly tales and join museum staff in a special Halloween themed version of this popular weekly virtual trivia program. Growl at the Moon Laser Night
Fri., Oct. 30 from 6:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.
This popular adult Halloween event returns for socially distant fun! Enjoy a Dark Side of the Moon laser experience in the museum’s 55ft digital dome planetarium, delicious food for purchase from a local food truck, a cash bar, live music and more.
