Did You Know?
The State Museum has over 4,500 works of art in its permanent collection. These works reflect the richness, beauty, and complexity of our state and help bring compelling South Carolina stories to life. The South Carolina State Museum Foundation works to provide much-needed financial support to the museum, which helps ensure the preservation of these cultural treasures for future generations.
This summer, the State Museum will reopen the Lipscomb Gallery following critical renovations — including museum-quality lighting and upgraded climate controls. The newly renovated space will continue to feature dynamic exhibitions where guests can encounter iconic works by Jasper Johns, stunning landscapes by Eugene Douvilliers, historic Edgefield pottery, or even the intricate craftsmanship of South Carolina silversmiths.
