Bio
Sara Rivera is the Human Resources Coordinator at the South Carolina State Museum. She supports general Human Resources functions, including assisting with staffing management, payroll/benefits, HR reporting, records management and more in accordance with state and local regulations. She also provides administrative and event planning support to the HR department and the Executive Office, as needed.
Sara became interested in Human Resources through working with the public for 16 years in private sectors of the retail world as a manager. “The beauty of working in retail for so many years is that you get to experience such a diversity of colleagues and customers. Although a state agency, SCSM offered the perfect environment for me to transition from a retail manager to Human Resources because we are open to the public. I still get to continue to broaden my understandings of diversity and inclusion while also getting to work in a really cool place surrounded by such a talented staff,” she says.
Sara’s favorite part of the museum is the South Carolina Habitats exhibit located on the 2nd floor near the glass elevator. “Listening to the sounds of the birds and insects just feels like home. If you’re having a stressful day, I highly recommend taking a few moments to safely stand, close your eyes, and just soak it all in.”
