Homeschool families receive free general admission to explore four floors of exhibits featuring South Carolina history, art, natural history, science, and astronomy.
Whether you're planning your own day of discovery or looking for a shared homeschool experience, the South Carolina State Museum welcomes South Carolina homeschool educators and their students to enjoy free general admission any day we're open and participate in our Homeschool Thursday's programming.
Want to make your visit even more memorable? Homeschool families also receive discounted admission to planetarium shows, 4D theater films, and select special exhibitions.
Homeschool Admission
General Admission includes access to four floors of exhibition and the Observatory. Planetarium, 4D theater films, special programs, and blockbuster exhibitions are an additional price.
Please note: Chaperones and Out-of-State teachers and students who wish to see planetarium and/or 4D theater shows or visit the blockbuster exhibition must pay the general admission fee listed below in addition to the individual ticket prices listed for shows and blockbuster exhibition entrance.

Who Qualifies
Homeschool benefits are available to South Carolina families participating in one of the three homeschooling options recognized by the South Carolina Department of Education.
Free museum admission is available for one homeschool educator (teacher) and the students officially listed under that homeschool registration. Additional adults are welcome to visit as chaperones at the museum's regular homeschool chaperone admission rate.
Homeschool families from outside South Carolina are welcome to visit and receive the museum's published out-of-state homeschool rates.
To receive South Carolina homeschool admission benefits, please be prepared to present both:
A valid photo ID for the registered homeschool educator.
Current documentation verifying your South Carolina homeschool registration, such as:
A homeschool association registration card or acceptance letter.
A school district homeschool registration card or approval letter.
A South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS) registration card or acceptance letter.
Documentation must be current and match the registered homeschool educator.
